With so many people looking to earn additional income, it’s no wonder having an Etsy shop has become so popular.  What’s an Etsy shop?  I’m so glad you asked!

Etsy is an online venue allowing crafters, artists and their suppliers  to sell their wares or supplies without having to have a separate website or deal with integrating credit card payments, a shopping card, etc.

When you open an Etsy shop, you gain access to online “real estate” where you can sell your crafts or your art, or supply those who make things with the tools and supplies they need.  It’s like having a booth at a craft fair without the hassle of signing up, dragging everything to the venue, dealing with payments, setting up and tearing down, etc.

An Etsy shop reaches over 2.2 million people, and that’s just in the United States!  Demographics studies have shown that most buyers are Caucasian young women who make under $60,000 a year.

In my own experience with my Etsy shop, TinkerAndPo, I’d have to say that yes, the vast majority of my buyers are women, but I do have a few men who frequent my shop for gifts for their loved ones.  I sell mens fingerless gloves too, and they are usually bought up by women as gifts.

If you’re interested in opening an Etsy shop, it can be an excellent way for you to make some extra money, especially since the holidays are on their way and we all need extra money then, don’t we?
